Frequently asked
questions.
Pricing, classes, Foundations, the move next door — everything people ask before they walk in. If your question isn’t here, call and a real person picks up.
Getting started
The first step is a 20-minute conversation with a coach. Everything after that is coached too.
Is Black Iron Athletics beginner-friendly?
Yes. Every workout is scaled to your ability, and a coach is on the floor for every rep. Plenty of our members walked in with zero gym experience. You just have to show up.
Do I need to be in shape before I start?
No. Every new member starts with Foundations — one-on-one sessions with a coach to learn the movements at your pace, before your first class. In 13 years, nobody has ever been too out of shape to start properly.
What’s the first step to joining?
Book a free consultation. It takes about 20 minutes — we talk through your goals, you tour the floor, and we recommend the right starting point. No pressure, no hard sell.
What if I’m working through an old injury — can you modify?
Yes. Our coaches work around injuries and limitations every day. Every movement can be modified or substituted so you train safely while you recover. Just tell your coach before class.
What should I wear to my first class?
Athletic clothes and shoes you can move in — cross-training shoes work best. Bring a water bottle. We provide everything else.
Classes & training
Programmed, not random. Three levels, one floor, and a coach on every rep.
What types of classes do you offer?
Strength & Conditioning group classes are the heart of the gym — programmed, coach-led, with three levels in every class. We also offer personal training, nutrition coaching, and self-directed open gym seven days a week.
How long are classes?
About 60 minutes: warm-up, skill or strength work, conditioning, and cool-down. A coach leads the entire session.
How many people are in each class?
We keep classes small so coaches can put eyes on every rep. Personal attention is the product here, not an add-on.
Do you offer Olympic weightlifting classes?
The snatch, clean and jerk, and the barbell work behind them are in our programming year-round, and open gym members can train them anytime. The dedicated weightlifting block is a seasonal specialty — it runs a few times a year and it goes fast. Ask when the next one opens.
Can I do HYROX training at Black Iron?
Yes. We are a HYROX affiliate, so the programming comes straight from HYROX HQ — the same race prep their competitive athletes follow. It runs in open gym seven days a week, with full access to sleds, rowers, ski ergs, and sandbags. There is no HYROX class on the schedule, so you run it on your own time.
What if I can’t do a certain movement?
Every movement has a modification. Your coach scales the work to where you are today — three levels, one floor, nobody left behind.
How often should I work out?
Most members land on 3–5 sessions a week, depending on goals. Start with what your schedule can hold. Consistency beats intensity.
Membership & pricing
Real numbers, in writing. The full breakdown lives on our pricing page.
What membership options do you offer?
Standard is $200 a month for three Strength & Conditioning classes a week. Unlimited + Open Gym is $240 a month — our most popular plan. Open Gym Only is $50 a month. Personal training runs $120–150 an hour. Full details are on our pricing page.
Do you offer a day pass so I can try it out?
Yes. A $30 day pass covers any class you’d like to try. If you join, we credit the $30 toward your first month. Buy a day pass — you pay and sign the waiver online, then just show up.
What’s your cancellation policy?
Memberships start with a 90-day commitment — change takes time, and we’d rather have people who are giving it a real shot. After that it’s month to month: we ask for 30 days’ written notice. You can submit a cancellation request right from this page.
What’s included in my membership?
Every membership starts with a free consultation and the Foundations week. From there it depends on your plan — class memberships include coach-led programming, monthly body composition scans, and community events.
Do you offer military or first responder discounts?
Yes — 5% off any membership. We’re veteran-owned, and supporting the people who serve is part of who we are.
Facility & access
Suite 122 today. Suite 110 — our new home next door — opening October 2026.
Where are you located?
279 Main St, Suite 122, Frisco, TX 75036 — in the heart of Frisco, with free parking right outside. In October 2026 we move next door into Suite 110.
Are you moving?
Yes — right next door. We train at Suite 122 today, and our new, bigger space at Suite 110 opens October 2026. It brings a big upgrade in quality and amenities, including a recovery room with two cold plunges and a five-person sauna that runs infrared and red light on top of traditional heat. Same street, same parking, same good people.
What are your hours?
Coach-led classes run throughout the day — check the schedule page for current times. Open gym members have access 7 days a week, between classes and after hours.
Is the gym climate controlled?
Yes. AC in summer, heat in winter. You’ll train in comfort year-round.
Do you have parking?
Yes, free parking is available right outside our facility.
What equipment do you have?
Full range: barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, squat racks, rigs, rowers, bikes, ski ergs, and more.
Do you have a sauna or a cold plunge?
Not yet, but they’re coming. The recovery room opens with our new space at Suite 110 in October 2026: two cold plunges and one sauna that seats five, with infrared and red light therapy built in. It’s still a traditional heat sauna, so it does get hot. Pricing gets announced closer to opening. See what’s going in the room.
Nutrition & results
The 23 hours outside the gym matter more than the one inside it. We coach those too.
Do you offer nutrition coaching?
Yes — real human coaches, powered by FuelPath. You get personalized macro targets, simple food tracking with barcode scanning, and ongoing coach support. There’s also a free macro calculator to get you started.
Can I do nutrition coaching without a gym membership?
Yes. Nutrition coaching stands on its own and works remotely — you don’t have to train here to fuel right.
How soon will I see results?
Most members notice better energy and confidence within two weeks. Visible body composition changes typically come within 4–8 weeks of consistent training and nutrition.
Do you track progress?
Yes. We use Wodify to track workouts and PRs, and monthly body composition scans measure what the mirror can’t.
What makes Black Iron different from other gyms?
Every session is coach-led with real programming, not random workouts. Training and nutrition live under one roof. And this is an ecosystem, not a room full of strangers — we’re veteran-owned, and showing up is the culture.
CrossFit & functional fitness
We ran a CrossFit affiliate for over a decade. Then we built something better.
Is Black Iron Athletics a CrossFit gym?
Not anymore. We operated as a CrossFit affiliate for over a decade, then stepped away from the name and branding. We kept everything that worked — the intensity, the camaraderie — and built a program with smarter structure and more predictable results.
Is Black Iron Athletics a good CrossFit alternative?
We’re the best CrossFit alternative in Frisco. Our programming includes the functional fitness, metabolic conditioning, AMRAPs, and EMOMs that CrossFit athletes love — with more structured progression and over a decade of coaching experience behind every session.
Do you do WODs and HIIT-style workouts?
Yes. Our Strength & Conditioning classes include WOD-style programming, HIIT, AMRAPs, EMOMs, and metabolic conditioning. If you’re used to CrossFit-style workouts, you’ll feel right at home — with smarter programming and a coach on every rep.
Why did you leave CrossFit?
After more than a decade as an affiliate, we wanted the freedom to build programming that truly serves our community without being tied to a brand. The result is Black Iron Athletics — the same grit, community, and intensity, with our own identity and a program refined by years of experience.
Will I get the same type of workout as CrossFit?
You’ll get a better one. We use the same functional movements — squats, deadlifts, cleans, snatches, pull-ups, rowing, running — with structured programming built for real progression. Every class scales to every level, whether you’re a former CrossFit athlete or a complete beginner.
What makes you different from CrossFit gyms in Frisco?
We’re veteran-owned, independently operated, and backed by over a decade of coaching experience. We took the best of functional fitness and stripped away the rest: smarter programming, a tighter community, expert coaching in every class, and a gym that puts its members first — not a franchise.
